If you are on Windows 7/8/10, this is the most convenient way to use a pen drive as RAM. Just follow the simple steps to use pen drive as RAM using ReadyBoost given below.
Step 1. Plug in a spare USB pen drive.
Step 2. Copy any data you have stored on this drive and then “Format” it.
Step 3. After the format has been completed, Right-Click on the drive and go to “Properties”.
Step 4. Head to the “ReadyBoost” tab and switch the toggle to “Use this Device”.
Step 5. Use the slider to change the storage you want to dedicate as RAM from the pen drive. Windows also recommend the optimal storage and we encourage you to set it to the same.

This is the next method if you want to use a pen drive as a ram. Although it is not as efficient as ReadyBoost, it is the only working method for Windows XP and it works for newer versions of windows as well. Here are the steps to use a pen drive as RAM using Virtual Memory.
Step 1. Insert the Pendrive into the computer.
Step 2. Copy any data that you have on the pen drive and then format it.
Step 3. Right-click on my computer and go to “Properties”.
Step 4. On the left pane, click on “Advanced System Settings” and under the “Advanced” tab, click on “Settings” button appear in “Performance tab”.
Step 5. A new window will pop up in which again head to the “Advanced” tab.
Step 6. Here, under Virtual Memory, click on “Change”.
Step 7. In the new window opened, uncheck the “Automatically Manage Page Size”.
Step 8. Select the pen drive in the list below and set the paging size about 200mb less than the total capacity of the drive. Set the same value in both the boxes.
Step 9. Save these settings and restart your computer for the pen drive to start working as RAM.
